Food
and Aid To The Needy There are many in America
and abroad that need a helping hand! There are also many
people with homes who lack food or other necessities. As hard as it may be to
believe, many in the United States go without food for days at a time. The causes are many: loss
of a job, medical problems, or just the car breaking down and needing repairs
between paychecks. Never-the-less, the results are the same: no money to buy
food! In 1994, founders Jeffrey
and Angela Larson started the Ministries’ food program in the garage of their
home. They later expanded into a
small food pantry in Burleson, Texas. The
program now reaches from Weatherford, Texas to Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Ministry
has been instrumental in initiating food supply outlets by acquiring donated
excess and perishable foods from America's abundantly supplied grocery chain
stores. As of this writing, thousands of individuals and families have and are
receiving food from the Feed The Hungry program. Through the years of
experience in operating food pantries, Start Again Ministries Start Again Ministries helped with a major distribution center in 1996 in
Fort In order to support the assorted food banks in
accomplishing this monthly feat, Start Again Ministries has been
successful in building working relationships with many private and public
organizations; especially Food Lion Stores. As an example of the
cooperation enjoyed between Start Again Ministries and this most generous
supermarket chain, Food Lion’s distribution centers have been providing
the Ministry with at least a semi-truck load of food seven (7) days a
week. Meats, vegetables, cheeses, seafood, bread, cakes and many other food
items are received daily without cost. Financial ContributionsMonetary donations provide your greatest return to Start Again Ministries -- every $1 donated provides $10 of nutritious food to the hungry of our community. Donations can be made:

Food and Fund DrivesA food and fund drive is an excellent way for an organization to get involved in helping end hunger for those in need in our community. Anyone can conduct a food and fund drive -- companies, work groups, schools, churches, professional and community organizations. All you need is a little organization to get the word out and to manage the logistics. Start Again Ministries offers support for two types of food and fund drives. Most of you are familiar with a Conventional Food Drive where folks drop off nonperishable food items from their pantries at collection boxes. Start Again Ministries has introduced the new Virtual Food Drive which is an online option for visiting our virtual grocery store and "purchasing bags of groceries" by donating funds. We in turn use these financial donations to procure the nutritious foods we need for distribution . In
addition to serving the hungry in the
Start Again Ministries has been successful in motivating corporate participation in acquiring various types of donations for many food distribution outlets. For example,
Future
Food Distribution Center, Houston,
Texas The Greater Houston, Texas area has a population of
approximately 6 million people. Similar to other areas throughout the U.S.,
hunger is a problem. This grant request is to fund a food distribution center in
Houston. This shelter will be a clone of the successful Fort Worth Distribution
Center. There are over 400 small philanthropic
organizations based in this geographical area who are involved in trying to feed
the hungry. However, most do not have the knowledge to formulate corporate
relationships to acquire a continuity of donated food and clothing. The Ministry
will use its relationships with corporations and other foundations to acquire,
stock, sort and distribute food and other goods. Other organizations will be
welcomed to participate in this food program as is currently being done out of
the Fort Worth distribution center. The proposed Houston distribution center will be
located in North Houston. This center will also be the preparation area to
accumulate foods and other supplies destined for international humanitarian aid
missions by the Ministry and organizations they support.
The following figure is a picture of the proposed Houston distribution center
with storage racks and bins.
